LaTeX-Community.org has teamed up with Packt Publishing to organize a contest. Two of our users stand a chance to win a copy of the new book on gnuplot.

The prize

It's the newly published gnuplot Cookbook written by Lee Phillips. From the book's web page:

gnuplot is the world's finest technical plotting software, used by scientists, engineers, and others for many years. It is in constant development and runs on practically every operating system, and can produce output in almost any format. The quality of its 3d plots is unmatched and its ability to be incorporated into computer programs and document preparation systems is excellent.

gnuplot Cookbook – it will help you master gnuplot. Start using gnuplot immediately to solve your problems in data analysis and presentation. You will master all the ins and outs of gnuplot through gnuplot Cookbook.

You will learn to plot basic 2d to complex 3d plots, annotate from simple labels to equations, integrate from simple scripts to full documents and computer progams. You will be taught to annotate graphs with equations and symbols that match the style of the rest of your text, thus creating a seamless, professional document. You will be guided to create a web page with an interactive graph, and add graphical output to your simulation or numerical analysis program.

Start using all of gnuplot's simple to complex features to suit your needs, without studying its 200 page manual through this Cookbook.

How to enter?

Write a small article for this contest and publish it on LaTeX-Community.org. The topic of this contest is: LaTeX and Graphics.

Send your text in HTML, text or TeX format to stefan@latex-community.org or use the contact form to get a login to write directly on the site. And have a look at: How to write articles.

What to write?

You're free to choose, as long as it's graphics related. You could write, for example, about using TikZ, PSTricks, gnuplot, pgfplots, MetaPost, Asymptote, or other graphics packages or software which can be used in or with LaTeX. Perhaps about a especially interesting features, or showing nice examples, or about installing and using.

The article doesn't need to be long. You could write it like you would write a blog post.

Who wins?

We all win by writing and reading interesting texts.

Ah, the books! A jury will select the winners of the two books, and the jury consists of the moderators of LaTeX-Community.org: Sven, Thorsten and Stefan. Of course the jury respect the opinion of all readers, so you can also vote on articles, the jury's judgement will also base on those votes. And it would be great if you would post comments on the articles. The decision of the judges is legally binding; there is no recourse to legal action. After all, it's a community contest and should be fun for us all.

Winners from the U.S. and Europe can either choose a physical copy of the book or the eBook. Users from other locales are limited to the eBook only.

Deadline

The contest will close on 20/06/12 PT, so we have got two weeks. Winners will be published on the site, and will be contacted by email, so be sure to provide your email address where we can contact you.

Well, there could be many reasons, you did not post a Minimal Working EXample. If we have a MWE to test, it is always easier for us to help you. In your case, you never told LaTeX to \printbibliography....

Wild guess: you're talking about a bibliography entry, i.e. something like @book{someid, author = {XXX Ag}, title = ... } If my guess is right then XXX is taken as first name and Ag as last name which is why you're getting “Ag, XXX”. You can trick BibTeX (or biblatex/biber) by declaring this a single (i.e....

Hey, the author of one book/manual is a company "XXX AG" and I want that it is displayed like this. Now it looks like: "AG, XXX". How can i change that? Best Johannes...

Hi, Use the optional argument of \section. It goes \section[goes into ToC and header]{is the actual heading} The same holds for all other sectioning commands. Regards...
